EasyCap USB Review

If you want to capture your favorite TV program right to your computer without any kind of fancy video card, usbfever has the answer. The EasyCap USB2.0 audio/video adapter captures high-quality video and audio directly through your USB port all while allowing you to record in your favorite DVD formats.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of these truly useful little gadgets and it did not disappoint. The EasyCap came with its own drivers and Ulead video capturing software that had me recording tonight’s Red Sox game in about 5 minutes. All I had to do was install the driver/software, plug in the EasyCap to my digital cable box, tweak a few recording options and to my delight I was recording in no time flat.

Nothing is better when something just works the way it is supposed to and the EasyCap is no exception. For those of you who don’t have a fancy video card with all kinds of inputs or like me have your computer in a place where you just can’t hook it up to your digital cable line the EasyCap, at only $39, is a great alternative to grabbing high quality audio and video for your desk or laptop.

  3. i´ve read the posts saying “rec audio with line in” !!!
but i want to record audio on a notebook that has no “line in” only “mic”, with easy cap
the video+audio capture with Ulead works great but it generates a gigantic file to discard the video stuff and only extract the audio
i want to record audio only of a dj live set from a mixer
steinberg wavelab recognize the usb as a source but no signal was encountered.
i´ve already set the “recording” feature on the audio panel of the notebook to capture with usb

    any solution??? thanks in advance

  4. i solved the issue in a strange way.
just leave the Ulead studio running on the background with all the settings properly ready to capture video AND AUDIO.
then open an audio application like steinber wavelab, select the usb source to record and the audio will be heared and perfectly recorded

    • I’m looking at getting one of these for my Win7 64 laptop. I’d like to go the cheaper DC-60 if possible. What model are you using? The DC-60 or DC60+?

  5. Figured out the easiest way to install easycap dc60+ drivers and get it working on a xp system.
Plug the device into your usb drive (DO NOT USE THE EXTENSION CABLE). When it asks for a driver, say you want to install it from a known locatoin and get the driver installed from the CD. Navigate to the folder drivers and choose BDA32 and BDAUDIO.inf. It should install the drivers as USB 2861 Device andUSB Audio Device. Install ulead from the CD or if you already have ulead 10 installed, go ahead and start capture.
Hope this will get flagged when someone with install problems of easycap is googling.

Capture after this was a breeze and works great :)

I tried the steps you recommended but I wasnt sure where to find the folders BDA32 and BDAUDIO.inf

I searched the CD that the Easy Cap came with but there were no files with those names. Could you tell me where they are?

can i capture a video from sony handycam Model No is DCR-HC54E: MINI DV And how Can I Capture It. Please Send Me Information At My mail ID My Mail Id Is [email protected]. Thanks

    • Hi, if you have a miniDV camcorder try better to capture using the DVlink (FireWire). Its much better and easier (you can controll your cam via the editing application on your pc – such as Pinnacle Studio, Corel VideoStudio, Adobe Premierer etc.).

The USB easycap id designed to caputre video from analogue source, but your camcorder (miniDV) has already a digital full-quality output and using easycap would degrade the quality :-(

    • I’m using Win 7 Ultimate x64
I had the same problem with ulead.
I installed WinAVI Video Capture and it will produce the avi file size you expect. My current problem is getting a runtime error indicating an abnormal termination after about 30 seconds.

    • I think this is ok. What you gotta do is re-render the video in something like Sony Vegas and that will reduce the file to a reasonable size.. lets say 10MB

Connected to my Sony DCR-TRV330E camcorder it transfers the video but NOT the audio. Also it is not recognised by Pinnacle Studio where I make most of my slide shows etc. It works great when transferring from my old analogue camcorder but again Pinnacle won’t recognise it. Any ideas anyone?

  17. I’m a total beginner (and a woman!) Do I have to connect my VCR and my laptop with the Easycap adapter at the same time as I want to copy a video tape to the DVD (via laptop)? And do I use the yellow CVBS cable? The driver is installed (shows in Divice Manager) but I can’t find the easycap USB when plugged in.
    HELP:-) Cheers [email protected]

  18. I have so far been unable to discover one very important aspect of the Easycap USB video capture adapter: What is the end result within the computer? Does it capture the video and audio to a file? If so, what type of file? AVI? If not, what happens to the “captured” material? Also, is there a manual or spec available on-line for it? I was unable to find a Web site for “Generic”. Thanks much for any info anyone can provide.

  20. Can I use this to record game play off of my video game console? I’m using an Xbox360 and I’m wondering if this will work, I need something cheap ;) Will it record audio also?

    • Yes, Alex, you can use this to record any auxillary devices. PS1/2/3, Xbox/360, Wii, DVD players, VCR players, and just about anything in between. If you need any help with how the setup for these devices is done, search it on YouTube. There are many people who posted videos on hooking an EasyCap up to many different devices. Hope this helped you.

  22. Hi,
    I got DC60, Vista 64bit.
I’ve tried connecting my PS2 (NTSC) (cart to USB, and Yellow,Red & White to PS2 cable).
The video went smooth on Ulead, but I had bad audio issues which I fixed with a 3.5 mm audio cable & RCA X2 plugged into my microphone outlet.

Now that audio is working great, when trying to capture, I get the “No Signal” error which results only the video getting captured.
I did went to Options and then to the Input Source, but I was unable to pick either Video Composite’ or ‘Video S-video’ like I read somewhere, the Input Source option is just unreachable.

    Please help. Thanks!
