Hands On: dialSpeed Electronic Combination Lock

How many times have you delicately spun a combination lock in perfect order only to pull down and receive the locked thud sound of dismay? You know you entered it right, I know you entered it right but, for whatever reason traditional combination locks can be a fickle bitch. The new dialSpeed electronic combination lock is here to change the game.

No longer will you be forced to remember meaningless numbers while trying to do the no handed juggle with your bags. The dialSpeed makes one handed operation a breeze and with its easily programmable numbers, letters, or directions, you’ll have your very own custom tailored code.

The fancily packaged lock is available in both black or white and comes equipped with a 5 year battery, 1 year limited warranty, and a 1GB USB stick containing a user guide as well as a free 3-Month Vault subscription.

Each lock supports 4 to 12 position codes and comes with a master which can easily be changed by simply opening the lock, pressing the center button until it lights up white, selecting a slot, and entering your code. It really is so stupid easy, you’ll nail it on the first try.

When you successfully enter the correct combination the center ring will light up green (red when you’re wrong) and you’ll hear a distinctive click. Once you hear that click you’ll then have 5 seconds to open the latch before it re-locks and you hear the distinctive sound of security once again.

What makes this lock really unique is the ability to store up to three additional guest codes. Now you can give people their own unique, simple to remember code, while maintaining the ability to revoke that access at any time.

Check out just how simple it is in the video I created below (sorry about the bad lighting).

Aside from the dialSpeeds ability to support four custom combinations and its sleek looks, you can’t ignore the fact that this lock is just plain easier to use. Pressing an easy to click dialpad simply blows spinning a traditional combination lock away. And on the off chance you misclick or lose your train of thought all you have to do is click the center button to start over – no more spinning over and over to reset.

Even though I knew the lock would be intended for indoor use only, I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s still a little disappointing. It’s clear the dialSpeed is perfect for lockers whether at school or the gym, the only problem is (sadly), I no longer spend time in either of those places.

If you happen to be the studious or workout type, the $24.99 cost is definitely worth saving your sanity and the few precious seconds you’ll save every time you use it – making your locker the coolest on the block is just an added bonus.
