Hands On Review: Latest Leatherman Wave Multi-tool

Hands On Review: latest Leatherman Wave multi-tool is a powerful array of stainless steel weaponry forged to fit in a tiny nylon sheath!

The Leatherman Wave multi-tool is an 18-tool powerhouse containing two interchangeable bits (big and small) for numerous options aside from the included Philips head and glasses-sized flathead screwdrivers.

When your ridiculously expensive blue-tinted glasses, which single-handedly stop the migraines and brain damage associated with 250 hours a week of looking at a monitor, pop a screw, the situation is dire.

A desk jockey chained to the LED panel, like myself, cannot imagine what the fancy French-made glasses would cost to fix.

And there is no time anyway! Deadlines are here now!

Whip out the Leatherman from the junk drawer, and spring a custom flathead made to fit damn near any sized tiny flathead or Philips head screw for glasses (and I suspect other things as well).

Gadizmo personally tested the hell out of the latest Leatherman Wave iteration, and it did not disappoint.

This writer was personally amazed that the glasses flathead driver even fit into the Philips screw my glasses had snugly, without slippage, let alone seamlessly tightened that bad boy down to a state of factory freshness.

The ultimate Leatherman Wave is worth every copper penny.

And it costs quite a few pennies, which is why I had never bought one before.

But being a good friend and a groomsman to a great groom has its benefits (thanks brother!).

The 18-tool Leatherman Wave, with its sheath, is $99 (Amazon has the previous iteration, the 17-tool, for $89 and free Prime shipping, though I cannot figure out which tool is the missing link, I mean, 18th).

I have a few multi-tools, multi-knives, regular knives, a machete, and a few Swiss army knives.

All have their place.

But few multi-tools are solid and refined top-shelf tools, like you would have in your Snap On toolbox if it could be shrunken down.

And that is why Leatherman does not blink twice as it warranties the Leatherman Wave for 25 years.

I have a knock-off multi-tool with pliers that barely open, and barely close for that matter.

The Leatherman knives are thick and almost impossible to bend.

And they are insanely sharp . . . enough so to slice a groom testing them the night before his wedding day.

The other interchangeable bit in the Wave is a thin Philips head driver that is extremely strong and also unyielding.

The spring scissors, the needle-nose pliers, and the wire cutters and wire crimpers all give you amazingly useful and dependable functionality, right at your belt or your sword hip.

The Leatherman Wave has locking blades and files, and she fits oh so nicely in the hand.

Specifications:

  • Closed Length 4 in | 10 cm
  • Weight 8.5 oz | 241 g
  • Primary Blade Length 2.9 in | 7.37 cm

Included bits:

  • Eyeglass Screwdriver
  • Phillips #1-2 & 3/16″ Screwdriver

You pay for quality, but quality is rarely as useful, sturdy and reliable as the Leatherman Wave.
