Hands On: Magimix Vision See Through Toaster

Yes, it’s see through but, it’s more than just a gimmick, the Vision by Magimix is the best toaster I’ve ever used.

If you happen to be one of those gluten free eating weirdos like myself, you know that toasting bread straight out of the freezer is a challenging game. Having the ability to see my all too expensive bread toast before my eyes means a lot more is getting where it belongs instead of winding up in the trash – saving me money and looking sweet one slice at a time.

Unlike my previous, very expensive, typical heated filament toaster (lets just say it rhymes with shwuisinart) that often left spots or even whole sides uncooked, this wondrous gadget has patented quartz heating technology that cooks more evenly than any toaster I have ever used while preserving that unobstructed view.

The one thing that made me apprehensive about this design was a vision of dirty cloudy burnt glass, like the kind you see on the front door of an old toaster oven after years of abuse but, so far that hasn’t been an issue. If that day ever comes, the side panel glass smartly flips down a full 90 degrees with a push of a button, making it a snap to clean.

In addition to the all important toast setting, the Magimix Vision has a number of additional functions fans of high end toasters have come to expect including one sided toasting, defrost, and reheat. Sure connoisseurs of the more circular variety of bread will enjoy the ability to create the perfectly crunchy while still chewy bagels but, it’s the defrost and reheat that make this toaster a home run.

With the Vision, all I have to do is set the dial to defrost and gone are the days of crunchy on the outside, soggy on the inside. On the off chance that I don’t time my eggs perfectly (I have it down to a science) the reheat function means I can quickly get my toast back to a perfect butter melting temperature.

As an unexpected added bonus, when you have a see through toaster, you tend to keep it clean. No more out of sight out of mind when it comes to those burnt crunchy bits piling up at the bottom and with the convenient slide out crumb tray, you won’t have to shake it over the trash like a madman to get the detritus out.

Although you are limited to a couple of standard pieces of toast at a time, the single elongated, extra wide opening means toasting fresh cut and otherwise awkward pieces of bread are no problem – no more flipping those long pieces of scali that stick out the top of traditional slots.

In addition to the black model I reviewed, the 15 1/2″ x 8 3/4″ x 7” high Vision also comes in cream, red, and brushed stainless steel to match any décor.

Look, I know it doesn’t run apps or have a built in Retina display but, it makes really good toast AND you can see through it so, before you go throwing your money at a plain old boring toaster remember that at $199, the Magimix Vision is still a gadget worth considering.
