The Drobo is one of the most innovative and exciting products I’ve seen in years – I’m so hyped about this product and it’s not even released yet (for another couple of months).
The Drobo is labeled as a “Storage Robot”. It will hold up to 4 SATA hard-drives and it’s smart enough to allow you to hot-swap, replace, or remove these drives without losing any data. You can combine up to four hard drives into a big pool of protected storage. Start with two, grow to four, then upsize smaller drives without having to interact with your machine in any way.
The device is plug and play so, all you have to do is simply connect it to your machine without having to install any additional software. The Drobo also acts as a normal external HDD so, it shows up on your desktop as simply one big disk.
Check out the video to get a better idea of what this product is capable of and if you have so much money you don’t even know what to do with it, head over to the Drobo Store and place your order for a mere $499 (without drives).
How’s it connected to the computer? USB or ?? If it’s USB it might be pretty slow. Still a nice idea although the price seems a bit high.
It is a high-speed USB 2.0 connection. Hi-Speed USB is capable of 480Mbits/second which is 40x faster than old school USB.
