Spy Hawk: The RC Plane With a Bird’s Eye View

It’s official, we live in a time where anyone with about four hundred bucks can have their very own unmanned drone spy plane.

With the Spy Hawks built in 5 megapixel video system and its 3.5” LCD screen you can now easily run a live feed reconnaissance mission over the entire neighborhood.

Maybe Top Gun is more your style? The Spy Hawk features smart remote binding so you can fly with your friends and a built in 4GB SD card so you can record the inevitable ensuing dogfight.

The lightweight glider has a wingspan of 33 inches, a range of just under half a mile, and is powered by a single 7.4 lithium-ion polymer battery that offers around 15 minutes of spy-time.

If you’re like me, now you want one but, you’re afraid you can’t fly it, right?

Spy Hawk promises a slightly simpler learning curve (than the admittedly steep one newcomers typically face) with its on board autopilot stabilization system capable of keeping the pricey airship level in the windiest of conditions. Even if you do experience some turbulence in the form of  pesky terra firma, the EPO crash resistant foam should save you from tears.

Although the Spy Hawk won’t officially be released until August, it is currently available for pre-order from UK based RED5. I will be sure to update and add a US source as soon as one becomes available.

UPDATE: The Spy Hawk is now shipping across the U.S. thanks to good old Texas based rcHobbyExplosion.
