Geek Weekly: Super Mario Bros. U is Coming!

If you thought it was not necessary to pick up the Wii U, you were dead wrong; Super Mario Bros. U is an amazement!

That’s right I made up a new phrasing of a word to describe the new console Wii U’s newest Mario installment, as an amazement, because it fits.

Upon first glance of the Nintendo footage at the E3 mega expo, I thought that Super Mario Bros. U was merely a spruced up version of the Super Mario Wii game (which is one of Nintendo’s all time best in my humble opinion).

I felt my jaw hit the glass top on my desk as the Mario, Luigi, Toad, and companions toured a surreal masterpiece of a gaming landscape. Everything is more complex, from the giant monsters that become a series of smaller ones when stomped on, to swirling cloud cover and intricate branches of trees shimmering and interacting with players like never before.

Four players can hop onto four newly reborn Yoshii dinosaurs and eat, spit fire, and hop along as you would expect them to in a Mario classic, but the 2-D gaming, abilities, and tricky environments are unparalleled to date.

Super Mario Bros. U promises a difficulty level that can only be done in a classic side scrolling format, and the weaving of background and foreground, sky and treacherous battlements bring an evolved pinnacle to the screen.

Mario and Luigi don flying squirrel suits to glide down to the marks that need coin catching, and there is even a dark Van Gogh Starry Night spinoff level that shows the swirling surrealist’s clouds circling in the famous blue and purple sky, while Mario hops ever on in the breathtaking labyrinth.

This game looks to be enough reason, in and of itself, to buy a Wii U (provided the price is not over three hundred big ones for the new game system)!
