Trying to take a piece of the pie from Apple, Microsoft is getting into the media player market just in time for the holiday season. The 30 GB Zune device is said to retail for $249.99 and will create new ways for entertainment fans to connect and share media experiences device to device through the use of wireless technology and new software.
Wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing lets consumers spontaneously share full-length sample tracks of select songs, homemade recordings, playlists or pictures with friends between Zune devices. Listen to the full track of any song you receive up to three times over three days. If you like a song you hear and want to buy it, you can flag it right on your device and easily purchase it from the Zune Marketplace.
Do I think this new gadget is cool? Hell yeah. Do I see any need to purchase one after enjoying my two iPods for the last couple of years?
Hell No. I think that this is a case of too little too late for Gates and the guys over at Microsoft. Of course that is just the opinion of a guy that already has a couple of personal media players and sees no reason to buy a new one. If you do not have anything like this, you need to get one. Between the gym, skiing, and riding in my car I can’t imagine not having something like this. With the advent of the Zune I think you need to do some serious research before just running out and buying an iPod.
