Agent watch developed by Secret Labs promises to break the mold for smartwatches by offering better power management and wireless charging.

There’s no shortage of devices that are given the “smart” title, however it wasn’t until the release of the Pebble that the idea of an actual smartwatch became a popular reality. Newcomer Secret Labs has created their own smartwatch, dubbed Agent and unlike other companies that are riding the coattails of Pebble’s success, this company believes Agent brings much more to the table.

One of the main features that sets Agent apart from its competitors is its wireless charging ability. In today’s world almost all the fun gadgets require precious surge protector real estate. Even the Pebble requires a cord and charging dock, as do most of the other smartwatches that have arrived on the sceen. Agent, however, utilizes wireless Qi induction charging with an included pad.

If you happen to lose the pad, there shouldn’t be a problem finding a replacement as the wireless charging technology is based on the Qi standard.

Of course, even with the wireless charging feature, there’s no point in having a smartwatch if it needs charging after a day of use. Secret Labs has addressed the battery life concern by improving power management. Instead of one processor, Agent has two. One used for the more high performance functions of the watch and the other low power variant is for more basic tasks.

The watch can last up to 7 days with its smart functions activated, or up to 30 days in basic “standby” mode. In addition, Agent utilizes a power conscious Sharp Memory Display that combines the advantages of both LCD and e-ink and also Bluetooth 4.0 to further extend battery life.

Features include a 120HMz ARM Cortex-M4 processor, 1.28-inch display, onboard motion and light sensors, and an OS that allows developers to write apps for it using C# and Microsoft Visual Studio

Like other smartwaches, Agent connects to your smartphones and allows you to access your music library, run downloadable apps, display incoming calls and notify you when you’ve left your phone behind. Currently the project has more than tripled its goal with a month left on its Kickstarter page. Early bird pledges can pre-order the Agent for $129, not bad considering the MSRP is expected to be $249.

For some reason the Mocoro Robotic Fur Ball Vacuum Cleaner seems a lot lazier than it’s cousin, the Roomba. However, the Mocoro has a unique twist that only the Japanese could add to a robotic dust sweeper: it’s cute as hell.

The Mocoro Robotic Fur Ball Vacuum Cleaner, which comes in pink, orange and shocking green, and looks like a ball covered in shag carpeting, operates on an internal timer and rolls around your living space, or office for that matter, picking up dirt and dust in all those hard to reach spaces. This adorable dust magnet will also run continuously for up to three hours on 3 old fashioned double A batteries.

The fur ball is actually quite an ingenious combination of aesthetics, human laziness and technology – purely because of its simplicity. Surely you’ll have to do some manual sweeping once and a while, but the Mocoro should take care of those annoying dust bunnies, especially in those places like under your bed and desk.

Best of all – if you are enough of a clean freak to buy this thing in the first place – the product comes from Japan, so you don’t have to worry about the Mocoro not being easy to clean after a hard days work killing dust. The dust killer is made out of a mop-like, microfiber material and comes with a little brush for cleaning – all you have to do is run it under some water, rinse and leave it to dry.

You can pick up the Mocoro Robotic Fur Ball Vacuum Cleaner for $71. It should be noted that this duster hasn’t been tested on carpet, but so far works great on hardwood and vinyl floors. Also, the directions in the box are only written in Japanese, but they are quick to stress that it’s most likely all pretty self-explanatory. Just take fur ball out of box, place in batteries, and watch magic happen.

Sleep is one of the most fundamental parts of human life. As most mattress salesmen will remind you, we spend over a third of our lives in an unconscious, resting state. And regardless if we have the latest Tempur-Pedic that somehow magically allows us to doze off peacefully while somebody is jumping on the bed with a full glass of wine, we still can’t get the whole sleeping thing right.

Now, after 25 years of research, Australian scientists have released a device called the Re-Timer, which is a green light device that you wear like a pair of glasses to help reset your body clock. Sorry ladies, not your biological clock, but your inner brain clock that tells you when you are tired and when to get be awake.

In today’s frenetic, fast paced world – with deadly bombings that make your want to stay in bed and air travel that takes us to distant time-zones in shorter periods of time, the Re-Timer will get you back on track.

In fact, our circadian rhythm, which is the fancy science name for our body clock, is responsible for not only our sleep cycles, but also our metabolism, our alertness and our productivity. In the old days, when we were pulling around our significant others by the hair and grunting for food, our circadian rhythms were our own personal alarm clocks, telling us when to hunt, when to eat and when to sleep and for how long. Over time this alarm clock has gotten little worn out.

The main ingredient that powers the clock: sunlight. If we stay inside for too long, travel to other time zones or even work too long, it will mess the whole system up.

The Re-Timer, which looks like a ridiculous pair of 3D glasses, emits a green light that effectively activates the photoreceptors in our eyes which are responsible for regulating our circadian rhythms.

Chief inventor of the Re-Timer Leon Lack from the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, who came up with the idea in the 1980s and who looks like a more handsome Charlton Heston, says that the device should be worn 50 minutes shortly after waking up and 50 minutes before bed so that you can wake up earlier and go to bed on time in order to get you on a generally better sleep schedule. Lack also says that you only need to wear the device for 3 or 4 days to see results.

If you head to the Re-Time website, you can even find a jet lag calculator that uses your destination and departure locations and times, to determine how long you should use the device to minimize the effects of jet lag. For frequent travelers and lazy teenagers, the Re-Timer is probably a really helpful device and at only $270 dollars it’s not a bad bargain, especially if you were just about to throw down even more money for a UV light therapy lamp and a fancy new mattress.

There is no doubt that 3D printing is going to take over the world in the next decade. I mean, being able to print out a pair of flip-flops is a whole lot better than going to the store or waiting a few days for them to ship, right?

It took almost 30 years for televisions to go from black and white to color. Now, only after a few years we have the world’s first color 3D desktop printer from BotObjects.

The new ProDesk3D, which looks like a sleek and modern orange juicer, is one of the most advanced 3D desktop printers on the market. Over the years, the objective with consumer based 3D printers was to make the process almost akin to pressing print on a regular ink-jet printer, and with this new model we are nearly there.

All you have to do is plug it in, download the software to your computer and the ProDesk3D will even auto calibrate so you that you don’t have to go through any additional steps, which usually seems par for the course with newer technologies.

This 3D printer is also faster than all the rest and more accurate, at up to 25 microns, which in perspective is about a quarter that of a strand of hair. You’ve also got what makes this printer so revolutionary: the proprietary 5-color PLA cartridge system, which mixes all the primary colors so that you can print out 3D objects in any shade of color you want.

Aesthetically, BotObjects has done more than just build they world’s first full color 3D desktop printer, they have built a 3D printer that looks like a 3D printer: lustrous with an anodized aluminum safe casing and an orange tinted window that looks into the printing platform. There is no pricing information on the website, but if you visit BotObjects there is a form to “register your interest” for the promised flurry of information that is soon to come.

Finally, an iPhone you can drive around. Recently, at the Shanghai Auto Show in China, Volkswagen introduced their newest model called the iBeetle, which is the first model with a newly developed iPhone docking station and application interface. Essentially, it is the first automobile fully integrated with the smartphone.

This marriage of Apple and Volkswagen is certainly not new. The Beetle, which was first designed in the early 30s by a famous German führer and then became a symbol of hippies and flower power in the 1970s, made a come back in the early 2000s after a long decline in popularity and immediately a kinship was recognized between the computer corporation that “thought differently” and “the people’s car.” If you think about it, it’s a match made in consumer heaven.

Yet, the new iBeetle is more a shiny gimmick than anything else – more of an attempt of two companies trying to piggy back on each other and make stock holders giddy.

The iPhone equipped Beetle, which they hope to release in 2014, is simply an attempt to scream out to consumers that they can dock their iPhones onto the dashboard. Sure it lets you use all the apps so that you can monitor your driving time, look up directions, play music and literally do everything you could do already provided that you have an iPhone and access to the app store, but why the name? The iBeetle is really just a fresh, new model Beetle with an iPhone dock. You can’t drive the car with your iPhone and you can’t do much else that you’d expect with something called the iBeetle.

When will the whole idea of the Beetle die and go away forever? Who knows, maybe the iBeetle is their last gasp. In 2002, when the last model of the older generation of Beetles was rolled off the production line Puebla Mexico, 58 years to the day since you could buy a model using coins with swastikas printed on them, a mariachi band played farewell songs – perhaps they should get that band together one more time to a play a parting tune.

What happens when little boys who love their toys grow up? They buy a 6 foot long, 170lb, 350cc four stroke, 1:3 scale remote control truck.

No, that is not a typo, the guys at Mammuth Works have essentially created a race ready quad, added some servos and, terrifyingly, removed the driver.

I am obviously oversimplifying this custom fabricated beast for the sake of comparison because, well… it’s hard to imagine just how big a 1:3 scale R/C car is – it’s not exactly something you can pick up at your local hobby shop.

The vehicle isn’t just massive either, it’s also packed with technology including ABS, traction control, and two-sided telemetry — because the last thing you want is a 170lbs wrecking ball getting away from you at 45mph.

The Rewarron is still in its prototype stage but they are taking preorders for their 200cc air cooled, 250cc water cooled, and 350cc competition ready trucks at prices ranging from $5,500 for the base model, all the way up to $15,000 – you have to pay to play.

The only problem now is… you’re going to need a bigger backyard.

Transform boring, poorly stapled business plans, press releases, marketing materials and other old fashioned paper artifacts to life using Fujitsu Laboratories’ touchscreen interface that can animate and bring a whole new dimension to real world objects.

Combining technologies, like gesture control and image processing technology, this ingenious device is a harmonious compromise between purists who chime “long live paperback” and the Kindle mafia who declares time and time again, “Print is dead.” The interface essentially manipulates paper and other objects simply and intuitively by using your index finger, like you would on a smartphone.

You could imagine it as the feeling you might have after being on a computer for multiple hours and spilling a glass of milk and wishing you could click a real life undo button. Say you have a real estate prospective – you can highlight words, outline photographs and expand the fine print all with your finger.

The device is also quite simple, using only a simple projector and webcam to determine the movement of the fingers, extract data from paper documents, and even measures the shape to get an accurate digital scan of the information. Moreover, the interface doesn’t only read flat documents, but can also pick up on curved objects like magazines and books. To determine the finger’s movements an overhead low-resolution camera captures not only the movement, but also the height of your finger as well.

This amazing touchscreen interface is also non-biased and can adjust color and brightness, and skin color accordingly so that it isn’t influenced by external or environment circumstances. In addition, if you don’t want to operate the device by touch alone, you can also manipulate the sensors with gesture controls — you can explore three dimensional objects with the simple movement of your fist to get a full 360-degree view.

Fujitsu Laboratories hopes to get a working model of the interface out by 2014. In the mean time we can only imagine what this device could hold in consumer and professional capacities. Print will never die in its tangible context, because it far surpasses the tactile experience of viewing documents or reading books on smartphone or tablet. However, there has to be a way to meet print at a halfway mark where a new generation can take the technology of digital imaging and gesture control to bring a whole new experience to reading a book or viewing documents.

There have been plenty of swings and misses in the history of gadgetry and this is definitely one of them. Do we really need something else to distract us while we drive?

The Smack Attack, invented by a guy named Gregor “G-Man” Hanuschak, is a slip on cover that essentially turns your steering wheel into a drum machine. Hanuschak doesn’t know it yet, but he is about to inadvertently kill scores of teenagers who think it’s cool to beat on their steering wheels going 75 in the fast lane.

The RITW (Re-Inventing The Wheel) Smack Attack allows you to you play drums with your steering wheel using an FM transmitter, iOS app, and any old dead radio station or, if you have a newer car with in aux input, you can plug right in.

There are 8 different sensors that correspond to 8 different customizable drum sounds which you can play with or without the music in your iTunes.

All in all, The Smack Attack, which takes no installation and slips right on to your steering wheel, is completely unnecessary and is bound to cause accidents from the distraction it might cause. Yes, we all tap our steering wheels to music but that one basic thud we all know and love suddenly seems a lot safer than trying coordinate an eight button Tommy-Lee-like-attack.

Do we really want people turning steering wheels into drum kits? If the answer is yes, than head over to Smack Attack on Kickstarter where they are trying to raise a whopping $200k to get units out the door — and make sure you’re a huge fan because a little tappy tap tap tapperoo is going to set you back $150.

In Ancient India, the Kama Sutra was a little bit like the Zagat Guide for sex positions. The controversial Hindu text could be found on many people’s bookshelves, no doubt next to a steaming cup of hot chai, and wasn’t seen as the scandalous and naughty book it seems today. In fact, quite the contrary, it was seen as just another part of spiritual life. Now that very special erotic spirituality is coming to a smartphone near you with a new app that will bring those famous illustrations to life.

Kama Xitra is basically an add-on app for the popular spiral bound interpretation of the Kama Sutra, which contains up to 69 positions – how fitting. The designer is quick to note that the illustrations in the book are wearing clothing, but they are not when displayed in the smartphone and application version.

Best of all, the images can be rotated up to 360 degrees so that you can get a full, ahem, grasp on all the different positions. You can also change the skin and hair color of the illustrated models to fit your own preferences. Can you choose green? Not sure, but I hope so.

Some of the positions include The Fantastic Rocking Horse, The Catherine Wheel, The Splitting Bamboo, The Curled Angle and if you really want to “Come As You Are,” you can try the Nirvana position, but that position requires a whole different type of head-banging.

Personally, I don’t know many people who have the time or energy to get though all 69 positions. This is the Mountain Dew generation, for God sakes, and most of us are not a bunch of nimble yogis with a predilection for poor renderings of a 2000-year-old erotic text.

Yet, perhaps the Kama Sutra might be useful to a few couples that want to spice things up in the bedroom. You might not be able to pull off The Plough or The Glowing Juniper for that matter, but you might find an excuse to get a little intimate, which is important – especially if it’s been a few years. The book and free application are currently available to pre-order now.

Why can’t you use your keyboard as a mouse? What would be more intuitive than that? Those questions are now answered with the Combimouse, the first freestanding keyboard to put the two together, into one seamless device.

Weighing less than an Apple Magic Mouse, the Combimouse is one of those “why didn’t I think of that” devices that makes so much sense it hurts. Invented by Perth, Australia computer nerd extraordinaire Ari Zagnoev, the mouse/keyboard combo has been an obsession since he invented it back in 1999.

It still has some of that 1990s aesthetic, but it has taken close to 15 years for it to become a reality. Now it is on the crowdsourcing website IndieGogo with 34 days to raise 20 grand to get the first units out into the world.

The Combimouse works exactly how you’d think a computer mouse and keyboard combination should work. The left unit is stationary with a scroll wheel and some multimedia keys, while the right unit serves as the mouse and the other half of the keyboard.

The right half is as light and ergonomic as a traditional mouse and features a contact switch which toggles from keyboard to mouse when you’re ready to make the transition. As two pieces, the keyboard still has the keys arranged in the QUERTY system with the cut between the G and the H.

Why aren’t we all using this type of mouse on our desktops? Well, it has been a long road for the Combimouse with multiple generations and prototypes. Apparently it is harder to make a mouse than it looks. Technology has a way of advancing so fast that by the time you done with a phase of testing people have moved on. Then what?

The downside is that it is anyone’s guess as to when the Combimouse will roll of production lines and into your hands. If you make a pledge you will get a discount on a signed model with a hazy delivery date of 2014. Hopefully it will be sooner than that, but they’ve made it this far, why stop now?
