If you love the feeling the breeze of the open road but aren’t a huge fan of the risks of balancing on two wheels, the Sway might be just what you’re looking for.

This small but capable trike is equipped with a 3000w electric motor and powered by a 60v Lithium Iron Phosphate pack that boasts a top speed of 40mph and a range of 30 miles.

What really makes this scooter interesting is the patented front end linkage that provides even the most beginner riders with a sense of stability that is otherwise lacking from two wheeled models. Not only is the design intuitive but, the three wheeled stance also allows for safe operation in snow, mud, and ice… something that is next to impossible on a standard motorcycle (I speak from experience).

As a longtime rider of anything with two wheels, I tossed a softball question designer, Joe Wilcox – why not just ride a motorcycle or scooter?

“The short answer is that Sway provides the thrill and performance of a motorcycle or a scooter — that flight-like feeling of leaning into turns — without the associated risk of falling over that comes with balancing on two wheels.”

The video he shared provides a more in depth explanation.

Excited? Don’t get out your checkbook just yet, currently the Sway is just a prototype.

The good news, Sway Motorsports is readying for a limited production run in 2013 while currently seeking investment to expedite that ship date.

When asked for a ballpark cost, the creator replied by saying “Ballpark we are shooting for is between $7k and $10k once full production is underway. We hope to narrow this figure soon.”

Xbox Kinect isn’t just for controlling digital gaming characters anymore.

The self described geniuses at Chaotic Moon have taken a motorized longboard and put it on geek steroids with a Xbox Kinect, Samsung Windows 8 tablet, phidget interface module, and all terrain tires – because they can.

The aptly named “Board of Awesomeness” utilizes video and speech recognition along with location and accelerometer data to allow riders complete control of the board without the aid of any other controllers (and while only looking mildly crazy).

Input captured by the Kinect is fed into the on-board Windows 8 tablet which controls the motors three speed settings and ultimately, the off switch. Simply push your hands forward to speed up and pull them back to slow down.

Although there might be easier ways to control a beastly all terrain longboard at 32mph… who am I, as a creator of no board of any kind, to criticize the makers of the “Board of Awesomeness?”

Apparently the theme at Gadizmo this week is, how much fun can you have in the water before you die a horrific death. Earlier this week we had the FlyBoard Jetpack ready to either take you on the ride of your life or straight to your watery grave and today we have the Abyss Board where this time, it’s your friends who will get the chance to permanently send you to the bottom of the sea.

The Abyss Board is being called a “revolutionary new water sport” that allows users to fly underwater while being towed behind a boat. I’m pretty sure Pirates also had a name for this “water sport” and it was called keelhauling.

If you can trust your friends to steer clear of obstacles and underwater rock formations, while keeping the boat towing at the nice safe recommended top speed of 10mph, you too can dive, barrel roll, carve, and glide like Goose from an underwater version of Top Gun. Video after the jump…

In all seriousness the guys at Abyss don’t take safety lightly. The board itself is buoyant and designed to be ridden with a life jacket so, if at any point the rider wants off, can’t hold on, or the boat stops, everything will simply float to the surface. I’m sure the sensation is amazing, the disclaimer is long, and their lawyer is scared.

Thrill seekers, get your credit cards ready, because taking the plunge isn’t going to be cheap. The Abyss Board + tow rope is currently available though the company website for a cool $395.

As a writer for Gadizmo I get the opportunity to check out lots of new gadgets and this week I had the chance to try out the DarkFin gloves from Black Lagoon Products. I contacted the company to let them know I was interested in reviewing their gloves and they replied to me within 2 hours. Then I got an email with my tracking number letting me know that the gloves were in the mail by the end of the day. I was very impressed with how quickly they responded to my request and would assume that you can expect the same level of service from them as well.

The gloves showed up in my mailbox about 3 days later and I was excited to try them out. They come in a reusable amber UV protect-ant bag that is used for storing the gloves when you’re not using them. Upon opening the bag I found an instruction sheet with easy to follow instructions accompanied with photos. You’re probably wondering why you would need instructions for a pair of gloves, these gloves have a few special instructions to follow. They need to be dried out in a certain way and stored in the bag they come with to extend their life.

The website advertises these gloves as perfect for sky diving, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and swimming. They have a non slip surface and webbing that increases your surface area or resistance by up to 70%. I can tell you that the added resistance is real. I go to the gym on a regular basis and I swim laps about once a week. I got through half of my normal laps and my arms and chest were burning from the extra effort required when using DarkFin. These are a great tool to help improve your workout or cut your workout time down while getting the same results.

My kids, 2 and 4 years old, love the gloves too. They call them my “Batman” gloves and they have a fun time playing with them around the house. The gloves are cool looking but I have to admit that I did feel a little awkward wearing them at the gym. I felt a little like that one guy that is always wearing the lifting belt, gloves and cutoff sleeve sweat shirt but never actually lifts a weight. Maybe I’m too self conscious but in trying to be completely honest in my review I thought you should know. I put the gloves in my pockets and put them on after getting in the water so it really wasn’t that bad, I’m just worried about looking uncool.

While I was swimming a lady in the lane next to me actually said something about the gloves and told me she had a pair at home that she likes to use sometimes. The gloves are pretty cool and would make a good Christmas gift for anyone you know who is into water sports. I had a great experience with the gloves and the company and would recommend them. You can find out more about them and order a pair for yourself at the DarkFin Gloves website.

We thought long and hard about what to bring you with our 500th product — something everyday-useful? Something that’ll revolutionize your computing style? Something shiny with lots of buttons and flashing lights and sound effects? Nah, let’s keep it fun… the sort of fun that promises to let you fly over water in multiple, thrusting bounds (nevermind that it’s nearly winter, let’s think long people!).

Ok, so it’s not exactly flying on water, but a whole lot like bunny-hopping along the surface on the wacky contraption known as the AquaSkipper. When you need to get from one side of a lake to the other, take the fastest route and hop straight across on this human-powered hydrofoil. Bouncing on the spring-mounted platform moves the angle of the back hydrofoil up and down in the water to generate lift and speed (90% of your power is going to come from this hopping motion), while a handle up front manages the second foil and keeps you pointed in the right direction.

The video of the AquaSkipper in action is pretty out of hand, made doubly great for any of you Seal fans out there by a CRAZY soundtrack.

The Skipper’s designers assure that anyone can get the hang of the movement within half an hour, but you may need to give yourself a bit more time if the hand-eye coordination’s a bit rusty. Once you’ve hit the foiling groove, you’re ready to break some waves at 17mph.

Made of aircraft aluminum and fiberglass, this lightweight skipper (only 26 lbs.) is available from JumpUSA for $499.

If you spend considerable time riding around on your bike, you’re probably always wondering “how far did I go? were the hills really that brutal?” There are a myriad of online mapping systems that let you plot your journey by points on a map (provided you can remember every twist and turn you took), but that doesn’t tell you with any great amount of accuracy how many miles you traveled or calories you burned. So get excited: Garmin has a handlebar-mounted tracking tool that will do all of the work for you, and even help you find your way back home from a wheeled adventure.

The Edge 705 is a GPS-enabled cycle computer with the works — it can monitor your heart rate, speed, distance, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and cadence, give you turn-by-turn directions, process power data, all the bells and whistles available on a water-resistant wireless color display. But unless you live on shorefront property, or don’t think much of paying hourly rates for dinghies that can’t take direction, getting out on the water isn’t as accessible as you might want it to be. Until, of course, you strap a catamaran on your back.

The MiniCat is a uniquely innovative two-person catamaran that packs up into a single 35kg bag that you can carry with you rucksack style to anywhere you want to go — the beach, local lake, or some hidden hole of water tucked along a hiking path. And with such an easy to handle storage size (1350x280x280mm), it tucks away nicely when you’re not using it, instead of taking up a corner of the backyard or precious garage space.

Here’s the best part: assembly is a doddle. Yes, I said a doddle — it says so right in the description. And by doddle they mean that one person can throw the whole thing together in 30 minutes without any tools — unroll, inflate, snap together, raise your sail and you’re good to go!

The price of sailing on the fly? A cool $3,500 and by cool we mean yikes, but if you’ve got the cash and a seafaring heart, this may be the best of both worlds — accessibility and convenience, a match for any lifestyle.

Let’s face it, a golfer’s worst nightmare is the annoying hunt for golf balls when they slice one out into the trees and their buddies are sitting pretty waiting for them on the fairway, but it may not be impossible to find those lost balls any longer. The Visiball “Golf Ball Finder” Glasses are a golfer’s dream tool. There have been plenty of technological devices do the trick, but none are as cost-efficient as these. While I am not exactly a great golfer, I do enjoy playing on the weekends and I must say that I do shank the balls every now and then and it is quite frustrating when looking for your balls in a DEEP rough…AKA the woods.

At around $40.00, you really cannot go wrong with these glasses, they do just what they say they do. When you put on the glasses, you will notice that there is a bit of a change in the way your surroundings look, so they might take a little while to get used to. The technology developed by two nuclear engineers in Canada allows the glasses to highlight the golf ball by filtering out the darker surrounding colors. Once the glow comes into the picture, you can grab your ball and be on your way to the next hole. Set aside from the fact that these glasses are very handy for a golfer, they are also very stylish. All in all, Visiball has done a great job with their next-generation product.

This year’s ispo BrandNew award winner, the Easy-Glider, is a very cool motorized twist on the old Bronze Age horse drawn chariot design. A bunch of tree hugging do-gooders out of Switzerland are the masterminds behind this new eco friendly form of personal mobility which can take you up to 13 miles on a single charge.

Easy-Glider can be used as a stand alone hauler that will pull you on a set of rollerblades or a skateboard at speeds up to 12 MPH. For those of you who are not so athletically inclined, you can simply clip on the optional trailer and enjoy the ride.

This is really quite an engineering achievement and a nice step in the right direction towards eco friendly personal mobility but I worry that this kind of technology is going to be a cancer on already lazy Americans. Are we to the point that we can’t pump our legs for a nice trip on our rollerblades or simply kick a foot to glide along on a skateboard?

Sweet video clip after the jump…
