Figuring out the time has come a long way since the days of waiting for the clouds to part to read a sundial. It seems that a new Kickstarter project might have taken inspiration from that age-old device as a gorgeous new way to tell the time.

Meet the Manifold Clock. Created by a team in Tel Aviv, Israel, this gadget aims to encapsulate the ever-changing concept of time.

The silent hands, powered by a single AA battery, are connected to a clock by a piece of Tyvek fabric. As they tick, they cause the fabric to twist and bend in space, changing the clock’s appearance every 60 seconds and turning the concept of time into a three-dimensional reality.

Based on a combination of modern design, simple mechanics and the principle of the Riemann surface, the clock is a fascinating spin on the traditional timepiece. It’s all about perspective, and how we visualize time and space as it changes.

The clock took almost a year to bring from concept to reality. The team decided to post the project on Kickstarter to help fund the expensive injection mold, meet the manufacturer’s minimum order quantity and set up the production line.

At the time of writing, the project is $5,300 away from being funded and becoming a reality sooner rather than later. By pledging $45, you can pre-order a Manifold Clock, which will retail at a suggested price of $69, if the project reaches its funding goal. There’s also a 30″ diameter version available if you pledge $100.

Nothing is static. The Manifold Clock embodies that in an aesthetically pleasing way.

What is sexier than a rechargeable portable speaker that produces vastly gorgeous bass and treble tones for twenty bones? How about one that comes in the form of a classic rubber ducky!

I am not quacking you, folks. The Disco Duck Speaker is here to float to the top of the audio-pond echelon.

Meander into the corporate headquarters, find the corner office, sit down to take a draught of a Colombian brewed java, and prepare to start working vociferously; but wait!

How does one maximize their work output potential?

Open up that desk drawer, break out the yellow duck speaker and plug in the iPhone for extremely resonant music right on the desktop!

Could a boss truly become upset at the vibrant atmosphere, or go against a rubber duck and win? I think not.

This little yellow guy gets LOUD! The bass is deep, the upper registers are soaring, and there is even an LED indicator light to inform you that Mr. Ducky is on.

The Duck Speaker comes with its rechargeable mercury free battery, an audio and a USB plug, which makes powering this little guy extremely easy no matter the setting (even a cable box has a USB output, people).

Head on over to Kikkerland and be heard across the pond and beyond with [their] Disco Duck Speaker.

Get a quacking app, and be amazed at what comes out of his mouth!

The Bot is coming toward you; it stopped. You poke and prod the Bot with a dully-ended pencil; twist the tip in the heart of its gearbox gut.

The Pencil Sharpener Robot comes alive and walks!

Kikkerland Design has outdone themselves with the ultimate office gadget for the geek in need of sharp pencils at the school or workplace.

The fully functional (if by the Bot functioning you are only talking about walking and sharpening and looking bad-ass, folks) Pencil Sharpener Robot is 4.5 inches tall and invokes all of the lost art of the early twentieth century robot age in its square, technical, and mechanical looking design.

Robbie the Robot would be proud of this Bot!

What desk does not need a pencil sharpener that can only be reached via the secret chest compartment doors of the Bot’s torso? And twisting the pencil within the Bot’s gearing winds it for a walk toward the facilitator! Just keep in mind that the hexagonal shaped pencils wind better than the round shaped ones.

The shavings are stored in the robot’s noggin’ (that is in the bulbously square head, folks), so there is no exhaust being trailed behind the marching soldier.

The Bot’s hands are aptly made to grip writing implements, and perhaps the coolest feature of all here is that the Pencil Sharpening Robot comes with a giant key that can be used to wind him up at any time for a strolling robot desk experience.

Get the Pencil Sharpening Robot at Kikkerland for a little over ten bucks (unless you find the Bot on Amazon for even less samolians).

Just insert the potential pick material into the pick punch and squeeze, it’s that simple.

Credit cards, packaging material, or just any old stiff piece of scrap you have laying around means that no longer will you be left searching your college dorm room when it comes time to serenade the ladies. I have to assume that is the only reason people learn to play the guitar.

What more can I say? The design is simple and elegant.

I don’t even play the guitar (I tried, I am all thumbs) and I think this little gadget is sweet.

Imagine my surprise when I sifted through an “all green” shop and found The Seven Year Pen. The pen’s name speaks for itself: it lasts for seven years!

Now it is true that the sleek and fun designs caught my eye, and my writer’s heart leaped at the sight of one pen in particular, the shiny black and silver surface donning three white skull and cross-bones and there in bold print the words: NEED COFFEE.

The sexy look, the innovative presentation sets The Seven Year Pen apart in and of it’s own right. But then I read about the pen’s purpose.

The Seven Year Pen is made by the Swiss and offered by a Brooklyn based company called Seltzer Goods who sell recycled and environmentally friendly products.

The overall achievement of these eco-friendly pens is truly one to be amazed by. The Seven Year Pen boasts an extra large ink cartridge, a long-life tip and smooth black ink.

The company states that worldwide 100 million pens are thrown away every day, but The Seven Year Pen is able to write 1.7 meters a day for seven years before running out of ink. Wow!

Now aside from the gorgeous looks to the thirteen different pen designs, there was one thing remaining for me to do in the shop. I had to try the pen to see how it wrote. No writer or pen connoisseur can use a pen that does not write to their every nuance and pleasure.

I am happy to report The Seven Year Pen is not gel ink, but writes very smoothly and beautifully (almost as if it were a gel pen). At just over seven bucks, The Seven Year Pen can be the last writing implement you buy for a lucky stretch of time.

Every morning I get up, make some breakfast and hot coffee, and then sit in front of my laptop checking emails and Facebook. Admittedly, the plethora of online activities often distracts me and after I gulf down my cereal I realize I’ve completely neglected my coffee and it’s become cold. I know, I know, shame on me, but Brookstone apparently has an answer to my problem: the coffee cup warmer.

This little device looks like a simple, metallic, high-tech coaster, but it can be any coffee lover’s best friend. If you’re worried that you’ll have to buy any special accessories for this product like a specific mug to fit the cup warmer, let me put your mind at ease. Any standard sized cup or mug that has a diameter of 3.5” is acceptable! Just stick it into the holder, which has a heating pad at its base, hit the power button, sit back and enjoy a nice warm cup of joe.

The coffee cup warmer also allows you the option of controlling the temperature. Granted there are only two options of “Low” or “High,” but at least you can somewhat customize the heat to your preference. The product can be purchased from Brookstone’s website for $24.99 plus shipping. The online store also has a gift wrap option if you’re buying it for someone else. The coffee cup warmer has a nice stainless steel design, which makes it look modern and classy. So if you’re still looking for a great gift for any coffee lover, or even for Father’s Day, this is something that can definitely be appreciated. Check out Brookstone’s website for more great gift ideas.

Think about it 21st century computer users and perusers: what does every desk need to function properly? In one word…robots!

Funko, the makers of all things fun (pun intended), have been releasing alarmingly detailed bobble-heads for obscenely low prices. They specialize in popular culture characters from movie, TV, comic books and more. Whose desk would not be instantaneously more enjoyable with a 99-cent Iron Man bobble-head?

Most of the Funko bobbles are about ten bucks on Amazon.com, but the prices vary from “very” cheap to “the shipping costs more than dirtily unbelievable funko” cheap. Take the office space or cubicle hell and turn it into a robot battleground as the detailed Terminator T-600 battles with the pointy eared Spock (from Star Trek) and our very own grinning President Obama!

I personally adorn my writing glass-top with a vintage looking Robby the Robot, whose gears and gadgets appear just as they did on the silver screen. Robby starred in the sci-fi geeks classic of yesteryear Forbidden Planet (and if you claim to be a nerd or science fiction buff and have not seen this great film than you are banned from the club as of right now). To keep Robby company is a Terminator whose eyes light up red whenever he is touched or bobbles and the beer chugging robot (only for fuel) Bender from Futurama!

Can the dead nuts accurate C-3PO and R2-D2 Star Wars bobble heads stave off the end of the world plot of the rotund cheesy puff stuffing Cartman and Alan from The Hangover? I can think of no better place to conduct these serious robot wars than the comfort of one’s own computer desk.

Bring back the glory from days of yore and one of warfare’s greatest designs with this Working Wood Trebuchet DIY kit from X-TremeGeek.com.

Measuring an impressive 18″ x 11″ x 13″, this isn’t a seige weapon for the meek-hearted. Once properly assembled, it can shoot a small clay ball (or doughnut hole, whatever) an impressive 25-feet. No longer confined to doing battle with your “team members,” you can now set your sights on the defenseless desks over in Marketing.

The trebuchet kit includes all the necessary parts to assemble (including some soft clay for target practice) and takes about 2 hours to build (finish it at your next status meeting!). It retails on the site for $39.95. There’s also a catapult available for $29.99, you know, if you’re a wussy.

The new Phantom Keystroker from ThinkGeek is the latest and greatest advancement in office prank warfare which is guaranteed to drive your unsuspecting coworkers crazy. All you have to do is simply plug in the tiny little circuit board and sit back while it sporadically makes random mouse movements and types out odd garbage text and phrases.

The beauty of the Phantom Keystroker is that it needs no additional software or drivers and it runs on any operating system which means you can be in and out of your target cube in seconds. The stealth like gadget is also equipped with a simple jumper setting that allows you to choose between either keyboard garbage typing, annoying mouse movements or both. You can also turn up the torture level by setting a longer event duration which will have your unsuspecting mark thinking they are losing their minds.

It might be a little late for the perfect April fools prank but, those are way too predictable anyway. For just under 25 bucks you can pick one up today for a boring rainy Spring day.
